Win for Clinton.
So Clinton wins it after all. Well, it’s not like it was particularly unexpected. Just how big will she win? No idea. I’m guessing it’ll be enough to maintain the status quo, so doomsday has been deferred (Update - looks like she made the 10% everyone said she had to). I’m sure the Furry one is going to be pissed - assuming he can actually make it online to read about it. Maybe I’ll just taunt him a little.
Besides, Andrew Romano from Newsweek’s Stumper just wrote up a little article on Clinton from Philadelphia, concluding that “her voters won’t let her (quit)”. Maybe I’ll say that “voters are making it impossible for her to quit and keep hopes of a future run alive”. It isn’t that Clinton is trying to hamstring Obama to ensure he loses. If she quits now, if she’s perceived to have given up despite all her support, she would probably find it difficult to whip up people’s enthusiasm the next time around or maintain their loyalty. Clinton’s credo has always been as tough, scrappy fighter against all odds - it would be hard for her to maintain that image if she bows out, however gracefully. If Obama loses there might be some fulminating about obstructionism from his fans, but that would be ignoring the fact that Obama’s weaknesses are very much his own.
In the end, Clinton’s been painted into a box where she cannot quit until it becomes a physical impossibility to continue.
