Is Clinton Finished?
Despite her claims to keep on fighting, the narrowness of her win in Indiana contrasted with Obama’s crushing victory in North Carolina probably puts her right on the edge. Clinton can still make a case to the Supers that she is better suited to “game” the electoral college because of her strengths in crucial states like Iowa and Florida, but it appears increasingly unlikely that the Supers will roll like that.
Essentially, the only remaining “supers” are those who fear a potential backlash for voting one over another. The problem for Clinton is that it’s easier for these people to explain away a vote in line with the popular vote than a vote against it. She’d have to bully them into being afraid of being seen as “spineless”…as indeed they are, but being spineless also means that they’re more likely to “go with the flow” than to upset the apple cart. And right now, a vote for Clinton will most likely look like upsetting the apple cart.
