Cyberwarriors

Posted in Barack Obama, Election, Hillary Clinton by iowajim on the May 2nd, 2008

In his post “Clinton Supporters are Utter Morons“, the Furry commented on the apparent use of message board commentary to push a political point. He was decrying the apparent stupidity and immaturity of pro-Clinton posters in comparison to those of her opponent, Barack Obama. I’ve (more…)

The Fading Star

Posted in Barack Obama by iowajim on the April 30th, 2008

Obama has been having a rough time of late. I needn’t elaborate on it - it’s all over the news and the pundits have been buzzing about the effect of Clinton’s negativity on him. And while Clinton is being weighed down by a gaffe-prone Bill, Obama’s immediate troubles come in the form of his former pastor - and perhaps a growing case of buyer’s remorse amongst some of a wearying electorate. What can he do to turn this around? Not much in my opinion. Not while the primary continues. Karl Rove made a number of suggestions how he might regain his lead - and as much as I hate Rove, he’s a canny political operator - all of which sound pretty solid.

I think that, in the end, Obama’s star has faded along with his novelty. His meteoric rise was as much the result of the freshness of his figure than anything else he had to offer. That time has now passed; he’ll have to find - grow into - a new, more sustainable persona for the long haul.

Entrenching Himself

Posted in Election, John McCain by iowajim on the April 26th, 2008

In his post “UMNO and the Democrats”, the Furry commented that “the Dems have to get their shit together FAST,” and warned that an extended fight could see the ultimate democratic nominee facing a well entrenched John McCain. Well, McCain is entrenching himself. While the Democrats continue to dominate the nation’s airwaves, John McCain is quietly building his image in the manner in which he is most comfortable - town hall gatherings; the small, personal, face-to-face meetings with the people that he so revels in.

It remains to be seen how well his efforts will pay off – (more…)

What Politicians Do

Posted in Barack Obama, John McCain by iowajim on the April 25th, 2008

Well, I’m a little late on this, but I’m posting it anyway: Obama’s ex-pastor, the Reverend Jeremiah Wright has hit out at the constant harping in the media over his sermons, saying that he felt that the coverage was “unfair”, “unjust” and “untrue”, that they were “doing it for some very devious reasons,”. Well, to be perfectly fair, a lot of people out there probably felt the same about the good Reverend’s statements.

According to this MSNBC piece, when asked about Obama’s speech on race, Wright said; “He’s a politician, I’m a pastor. I do what I do. He does what politicians do. What happened in Philadelphia, where he had to respond to the sound bites, he responded as a politician.” I’m not sure if I like that statement (more…)

Enthusiasm: The Case for Barack Obama

Posted in Barack Obama, Election by iowajim on the April 23rd, 2008

Despite Clinton’s arguments to the contrary, Barack Obama’s appeal to the youth vote is probably more important to the Democrats in November than Clinton’s ability to carry the big states. - FurryMalaysian

For some time now, Clinton’s argument has been that she can carry the big states, so important to Democrats in the general election. Her surrogates have been handily deriding younger voters for being “drunk on Obama Kool Aid”, the implication being that they’re voting with the head between their legs instead of the one between their shoulders. Apart from (more…)

Win for Clinton.

Posted in Hillary Clinton by iowajim on the April 23rd, 2008

So Clinton wins it after all. Well, it’s not like it was particularly unexpected. Just how big will she win? No idea. I’m guessing it’ll be enough to maintain the status quo, so doomsday has been deferred (Update - looks like she made the 10% everyone said she had to). I’m sure the Furry one is going to be pissed - assuming he can actually make it online to read about it. Maybe I’ll just taunt him a little.

Besides, Andrew Romano from Newsweek’s Stumper just wrote up a little article on Clinton from Philadelphia, concluding that “her voters won’t let her (quit)”. Maybe I’ll say that (more…)

Killing time

Posted in Hillary Clinton by iowajim on the April 22nd, 2008

Just reading Clinton’s “massive retaliation” statement. Everyone likes to suck up to the Isreali hawk lobby. As much as these guys hate their Muslim neighbors, they emulate them in so many ways - (more…)

Countdown to Pennsylvania

Posted in Barack Obama, Election, Hillary Clinton by iowajim on the April 18th, 2008

Just a few days more - will we finally see Obama put Clinton in the ground, or will the race continue? Too soon to tell. I’d say it will carry on. The Furry says it might be a surprise upset for Obama. (more…)

A Bad Case (of) News

Posted in Election by iowajim on the April 17th, 2008

Well, the “big debate” between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton is over and the results are in.

ABC news sucks.

Actually, I kinda enjoyed myself watching it. Sorry, but even a train wreck is entertaining. (more…)
